Police Transfer Two Additional Suspects in the 'Daewoo Industrial Development Case'

Chairman Sang-Young Lee of Daewoo Industrial Development Accused of Breach of Trust and Other Charges

The police have confirmed that two additional key suspects related to the Daewoo Industrial Development case have been transferred.


On the 27th, according to the Committee for the Protection of the Common People and the police, the Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency transferred Lee Sang-young, chairman of Daewoo Industrial Development, who was suspected of accounting fraud last January, along with one associate from a partner company, on charges including violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (breach of trust).

CEO Han Jae-jun and one financial officer were handed over on charges including violation of the Act on External Audit of Stock Companies.


Earlier, in January last year, the Committee for the Protection of the Common People filed complaints against Chairman Lee, CEO Han, the financial officer, and the partner company associate?four people in total?for violations of the External Audit Act, breach of trust, embezzlement, and tax evasion.


Regarding the case, Kim, a current police superintendent affiliated with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, was placed on standby after being accused of receiving several hundred million won in bribes from Daewoo Industrial Development in exchange for halting the investigation.


Meanwhile, the High-ranking Officials Crime Investigation Office conducted a search and seizure of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and Daewoo Industrial Development on the 21st.
