Ongoing Throughout the District
Busan's Gijang-gun will hold the '104th March 1st Movement Anniversary Ceremony' at various locations within the district to honor the noble spirit of the patriotic martyrs of Gijang-gun who fought for independence during the Japanese colonial period and to promote love for the country and national spirit.
First, Gijang-gun and the Gijang Liberation Movement Memorial Association will hold the '104th March 1st Movement Anniversary Ceremony' at Saemaeul Children's Park in Gijang-eup on March 1st at 10 a.m. (pre-ceremony performance at 9:30 a.m.).
The ceremony, hosted by Gijang-gun, will proceed in the order of ▲reading of the commemorative text ▲commemorative address ▲flower offering and incense burning ▲singing of the March 1st Movement song ▲three cheers for independence, with about 300 attendees including descendants of independence patriots from Gijang-eup. Additionally, pre-ceremony performances will include a recorder ensemble by Gijang youth and a choir performance by the Gijang Haesong Choir.
Also, the Jeonggwan-eup Residents' Autonomy Committee will hold the 'Jeonggwan-eup March 1st Movement Anniversary Ceremony' in front of the Jeonggwan Patriotic Martyrs Memorial Tower on March 1st at 11 a.m. (pre-ceremony event at 10:30 a.m.).
The ceremony hosted by the Jeonggwan-eup Residents' Autonomy Committee will be attended by about 300 people including descendants of patriotic martyrs, residents, and students, and will proceed in the order of ▲reenactment of the independence movement cheers ▲moment of silence for the patriotic martyrs and national heroes ▲reading of the Declaration of Independence ▲singing of the March 1st Movement song ▲three cheers for independence ▲flower offering and incense burning.
Moon Jae-cheol, chairman of the Jeonggwan-eup Residents' Autonomy Committee, said, "I hope many residents will participate in the ceremony to inherit the sacrifice and noble spirit of the ancestors who rose up for the liberation of the homeland without losing hope and courage during the dark period when the country was taken away."
Jeong Jong-bok, mayor of Gijang-gun, said, "This 104th March 1st Movement Anniversary Ceremony is the first event held since 2019 along with the recovery of daily life from COVID-19, and we hope many residents will participate. We also hope it will be an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of the anti-Japanese movement and the noble spirit of the ancestors, along with displaying the national flag at every home."
