Chairman Kim Hyun-ki Meets with Paraguayan Delegation Including Governor Carlos Alberto of Guaira Department on the 27th
After Inspecting Seoul's Transportation Information System (TOPIS), Holds Talks with the Chairpersons... Discusses Exchange and Cooperation
Kim Hyun-ki, Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, held a meeting on the morning of the 27th with the Paraguayan delegation visiting the council, including Carlos Alberto, Governor of Guaira Department, and Angel Ramon, former Ambassador of Paraguay.
The Paraguayan delegation is reported to have come to Korea for a 5-night, 6-day visit to review the progress of the 600 billion KRW light rail transit project between Korea and Paraguay.
The Korea-Paraguay light rail transit project connects Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay, to the major suburban city of Ypacarai over 42 km, and has attracted attention as it involves exporting an integrated package of Korean-style railway construction and operation systems.
The Paraguayan delegation inspected Seoul's advanced transportation system by visiting the Seoul Transportation Information System (TOPIS), and then paid a courtesy visit to the chairpersons at the Seoul Metropolitan Council.
Former Ambassador Angel Ramon said, “I was very impressed by Seoul’s advanced development, including the transportation information system,” and added, “I hope that various exchanges and cooperation, including in the transportation sector, between the two countries and cities will be activated in the future.”
Located in the heart of the South American continent, Paraguay is gaining attention based on its active external economic liberalization policies and economic growth rate, and recently has emerged as a clean energy exporting country with abundant electricity exports.
Chairman Kim Hyun-ki mentioned that 2022 marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Paraguay, stating, “I hope that the delegation’s visit will serve as an opportunity to further activate exchange and cooperation between our council and cities in Latin America.”
