"The Validity Period of Appearance Isn't One Year..." Confessions of Divorced Men and Women

Survey Results of 536 Divorced Men and Women
Question: "Why Is Spouse's Appearance Important?"
Men: "To Maintain Affection," Women: "Positive Opinions from Acquaintances"

More than half of divorced men and women, referred to as 'dolsing (returned singles),' do not agree with the common belief that 'the effective period of appearance is one year.'

On the 27th, Only-U, a remarriage-specialized matchmaking company, together with matchmaking company Bienarae, announced the results of a survey conducted from the 20th to the 25th among 536 divorced men and women nationwide who hope for twilight or remarriage (268 men and 268 women each).

In this survey, when asked, "What do you think about the saying that the effective period of appearance is one year based on your experience of married life?" 42.1% of men and 37.1% of women answered "do not really agree." Following that, 22% of men and 18.2% of women answered "do not agree at all." In other words, more than half of both men and women do not agree with the effective period of appearance.

On the other hand, the proportion of those who responded positively, such as "strongly agree (men 10.9%, women 21.2%)" or "somewhat agree (men 25%, women 23.5%)," was 35.9% for men and 44.7% for women.

For women, 33.3% answered "It receives good reviews from acquaintances." Other answers included "It gives a sense of pride (27.3%)," "It helps maintain affection during married life (18.2%)," and "It shows inner qualities (13.2%)."

This was followed by "slightly increased" (men 18.9%, women 25.4%). Conversely, the proportion of those who said they would lower the importance of appearance compared to their first marriage was 18.6% for men and 13.9% for women.

A representative from Bienarae analyzed, "Generally, men consider their partner's appearance more than women when getting married. However, as time passes and women's social status rises and living standards improve, women become interested not only in economic power but also in appearance."
