Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk is promoting a fine dust reduction project to establish an eco-friendly urban foundation and protect the health of its citizens.
The city announced on the 27th that it will actively promote the ‘Mobility Project’ with a budget of 14.1 billion KRW.
The main projects include early scrapping of old diesel vehicles with high fine dust emission rates (1,510 vehicles), distribution of electric vehicles (250 passenger cars, 315 cargo vehicles), purchase of new LPG cargo vehicles (20 vehicles), and installation of diesel particulate filters and engine replacement (78 vehicles).

The early scrapping project for old diesel vehicles aims to reduce vehicle emissions, a major cause of air pollution. Until last year, only diesel vehicles with emission grade 5 were supported, but this year the target has been expanded to include diesel vehicles with emission grade 4, as well as old forklifts and excavators.
The support amount is calculated by multiplying the quarterly vehicle standard value, assessed by the Insurance Development Institute according to the vehicle type and age, by the support rate.
Applications can be submitted starting today by visiting the City Hall Resource Circulation Division, township or town offices, or community service centers in person, or online or by registered mail.
The electric vehicle private distribution project is aimed at improving air quality by distributing electric passenger and cargo vehicles that emit no nitrogen oxides or fine dust.
This year, 395 vehicles will be supported in the first half and 170 in the second half. For electric passenger cars, subsidies of up to 13.8 million KRW, and for electric cargo vehicles, up to 19 million KRW will be provided, varying by vehicle model.
Those wishing to purchase electric vehicles can apply through electric vehicle manufacturers and sellers starting from the 2nd of next month.
Additionally, the city provides a subsidy of 1 million KRW per vehicle to citizens purchasing new LPG cargo vehicles, and covers 90% of the replacement cost for those installing diesel particulate filters.
Applicants for the LPG cargo vehicle purchase and diesel particulate filter installation and engine replacement projects can apply online or by registered mail on the 6th and 13th, respectively.
For more details, inquiries can be made to the City Hall Resource Circulation Division, and detailed information is also available through the city’s website notices and announcements.
A city official stated, “The city is striving to reduce fine dust that threatens citizens’ health and to create a pleasant urban environment,” adding, “We ask citizens to actively participate in the fine dust reduction projects and join in responding to the future climate crisis.”
