Jeong Seong-ho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) and known as the leader of the 'Pro-Myeong (親明)' faction, claimed that President Yoon Suk-yeol's intentions were reflected in the prosecution's investigation of Lee Jae-myung, the DPK leader.
On the 27th, on MBC's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus,' Jeong stated, "Could this happen without the president's intention? President Yoon is someone who spent his entire career as a special prosecutor and is a former Prosecutor General," asserting this point.
He added, "In their relationships, special prosecutors are accustomed to investigating, reporting, and receiving orders. Could frontline prosecutors request warrants and investigate the leader of the main opposition party without directives from the core of the administration?" He emphasized that President Yoon is "the only president in history who has not met the leader of the main opposition party."
This is because President Yoon personally dislikes Lee. Jeong said, "The state affairs are very difficult, and the people's livelihood is very hard. Naturally, the leader of the main opposition party, who represents the majority in the National Assembly, should be met to seek cooperation and solve these problems together, but he refused." He continued, "Although there may be a prejudice that, as a former prosecutor, he is a person under suspicion of a crime, our constitution clearly presumes innocence until a guilty verdict is confirmed."
He further stated, "Continuing the investigation without even meeting could be seen as a sign that he lacks confidence in his achievements regarding the people's livelihood and state affairs management," and added, "More importantly, with next year's general election ahead, the biggest task is winning the election. Therefore, it seems that dividing the main opposition party and cornering its leader until the election is considered beneficial for the election."
Regarding Yoo Dong-gyu, former head of the Seongnam Urban Development Corporation and a member of the 'Daejangdong group,' confessing his experiences on a YouTube channel, Jeong said, "He is a defendant currently on trial anyway," and added, "Although a defendant on trial has freedom of expression regarding cases related to himself, how can we trust that?"
Concerning the petition with 50,000 signatures requesting the expulsion of former DPK emergency committee member Park Ji-hyun, who argued that the arrest motion for Lee should be passed, Jeong said, "I do not agree with former emergency committee member Park's opinion, but the Democratic Party should be different from the People Power Party," and added, "Having diverse opinions is something I accept, and that should be the norm. I do not agree with disciplining or expelling someone over that."
