Active as an Agriculture-Related Instructor After Training
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 27th that it is recruiting 30 Seoul citizens who aspire to become ‘urban agriculture experts.’ The city added that due to the steadily increasing interest and demand from citizens regarding carbon neutrality practices and the diverse multifunctional values of agriculture, it has been operating a customized ‘Urban Agriculture Expert Training Program’ since 2012.
This program has operated a total of 20 sessions until last year, producing 922 graduates. The graduates are currently active as instructors in related fields such as school gardens and urban farmer schools, as well as volunteers at urban agriculture fairs.
The ‘Urban Agriculture Expert Training’ will be held free of charge for about a month starting from the 29th of next month. The main content includes understanding the importance of urban agriculture, types of soil and fertilizers, eco-friendly cultivation techniques for each crop, pest and disease management methods, vegetable garden cultivation, and indoor horticulture, focusing on theory and practical training that can be immediately applied in the field.
Eligibility includes Seoul citizens who are ▲graduates of agricultural schools, ▲holders of agricultural-related certificates, ▲farmers registered as agricultural business operators with more than 3 years of farming experience, ▲those who have completed more than 50 hours of agricultural-related education (100 hours for online education), ▲and those with work experience at agricultural-related institutions or organizations located in Seoul.
Applications can be submitted from the 2nd of next month through the Agricultural Technology Center’s website. After applying, applicants must submit the application form and proof of career documents to the Seoul Agricultural Technology Center (Citizen Education Team) by visiting in person, registered mail, or email by 5 p.m. on March 8th (Wednesday).
The final 30 candidates will be selected through document screening, and the results will be announced at 3 p.m. on the 23rd of next month on the Seoul Agricultural Technology Center’s website. Cho Sang-tae, director of the Seoul Agricultural Technology Center, stated, “We will nurture leaders in the field of lifestyle agriculture to disseminate proper agricultural techniques to citizens and have them act as mentors in related fields.” He added, “We will strive to train experts who meet citizens’ interests and demands for agriculture in daily life and to promote lifestyle agriculture by utilizing these experts.”
