Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Inspection Results of 16 Companies in the Seoul Metropolitan Area
On the 27th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that the results of the first ad-hoc aggregate quality inspection of the year were reviewed and finalized at the '12th Aggregate Quality Inspection Deliberation Committee' held on the 24th.
This ad-hoc inspection was conducted over ten days from the 1st to the 10th of this month, targeting 16 aggregate companies in the metropolitan areas including Gyeonggi and Incheon. As a result of the inspection, three companies were judged to be non-compliant. Among them, two companies had previously passed the regular inspection.
The results of the ad-hoc inspection can be checked at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport website and the Korea Aggregate Industry Research Institute website at the end of the year.
The aggregate quality inspection system, newly introduced in June last year, involves quality management specialized institutions designated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport directly visiting aggregate production sites to collect samples and conduct quality inspections to verify compliance with quality standards.
Aggregate quality inspections consist of regular inspections conducted once a year and ad-hoc inspections carried out without prior notice when necessary to prevent accidents caused by aggregates or to ensure public safety.
Regular inspections notify the target companies in advance at least seven days before the inspection, including the date, reason, and details of the inspection, whereas ad-hoc inspections are conducted without prior notice to achieve the purpose of the inspection.
Aggregates from companies judged non-compliant in the ad-hoc inspection will have their supply and sales suspended.
Kim Sang-moon, Director of the Construction Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "Since the quality of aggregates directly affects the quality and safety of construction works, we will continue to actively strengthen management." He added, "This year, we plan to newly establish a standard for the content of soil fines, which refers to harmful fine particles contained in aggregates, in the aggregate quality standards."
