Sancheong Gotgam Festival Wins Korea Festival Content Award for 8 Consecutive Years

Grand Prize Winner in the Festival Category

Selected Annually Since 2016

The ‘Jirisan Sancheong Gotgam Festival’ has achieved the remarkable feat of being selected for the Korea Festival Contents Grand Prize for eight consecutive years.

According to Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam, on the 27th, the Jirisan Sancheong Gotgam Festival received the grand prize in the festival category at the ‘11th Korea Festival Contents Grand Prize’ awards ceremony held on the afternoon of the 23rd at The-K Hotel Seoul.

At this awards ceremony, the Jirisan Sancheong Gotgam Festival was highly evaluated for being a purely privately-led event that contributed to the actual income increase of residents. It was also recognized for its contribution to revitalizing the local economy through the festival.

Thus, the Jirisan Sancheong Gotgam Festival has been honored with the Korea Festival Contents Grand Prize for eight consecutive years since 2016. The 16th Jirisan Sancheong Gotgam Festival, held from December 29 last year to the 1st of last month at the Sicheon-myeon Sancheong Gotgam Distribution Center area, was held as an in-person event for the first time in three years since COVID-19.

The festival attracted a total of about 85,000 visitors and recorded sales effects of 990 million KRW through on-site sales and live commerce. In particular, various special exhibitions and participation events received great responses from tourists visiting the festival grounds.

Previously, ‘Sancheong Gojongsi,’ the senior variety of Sancheong Gotgam, was selected as Korea’s representative fruit for seven consecutive years at the ‘2022 Korea Representative Fruit Selection Contest’ hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs at the end of last year, receiving the highest award in the forestry fruit sector. Currently, about 1,300 farms produce approximately 2,700 tons annually, generating farm income worth 40 billion KRW from Sancheong Gotgam.

A county official said, “We are grateful to the Jirisan Sancheong Gotgam Producers’ Association and the residents who worked hard to enable the Jirisan Sancheong Gotgam Festival to win for eight consecutive years,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that Sancheong Gotgam maintains its reputation as the best in taste and quality nationwide and becomes a premium festival through the development of abundant programs.”

The Korea Festival Contents Grand Prize is an event hosted by the Korea Festival Contents Association and supported by the Korea Regional Industry Culture Association. It started in 2013 and is a representative domestic festival awards ceremony held annually.
