"Submit Proposal for Restructuring the Personnel Verification Team"
The Democratic Party of Korea criticized the presidential office's personnel verification system regarding Attorney Jeong Soon-shin, whose appointment as head of the National Investigation Headquarters was canceled, and announced plans to submit a government organization reform proposal to place the personnel verification team under the Ministry of Personnel Management.
On the morning of the 26th, Kim, the chairman of the Policy Committee, pointed out at a press briefing held at the National Assembly, "The Ministry of Justice's Personnel Information Management Team completely failed to filter out allegations related to school violence involving the son of Director Jeong," calling it "a failure of the Personnel Information Management Team."
He continued, "It does not seem right to keep the personnel verification team under the Ministry of Justice, which neither conducts proper verification nor is appropriate," and added, "Next week, we plan to submit a related reform proposal, suggesting that the personnel verification team should be placed either under the presidential office or, if not, under the Ministry of Personnel Management."
Secretary-General Jo Jeong-sik also commented on this personnel failure, saying, "It was a historic comedy where they tried to control the police by appointing a former prosecutor, and a case where the Yoon administration's intentions were frustrated," adding, "President Yoon Seok-yeol and the presidential office should take this as a lesson and hold those responsible for the hasty personnel verification accountable."
Attorney Jeong, who had been appointed as head of the National Investigation Headquarters, tendered his resignation on the 25th, a day before his term was to begin. The controversy grew after it was revealed that Jeong's son was a perpetrator of school violence during high school. Consequently, President Yoon canceled Jeong's appointment as head of the National Investigation Headquarters.
