Seoul City Recruits 'Foreign Resident Seoul Life Monitors'

Helper for Resolving Concerns and Inconveniences of Foreign Residents

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 27th that it will recruit 40 monitoring personnel for the ‘Foreign Resident Seoul Life Observer’ program from today until the 9th of next month. This program aims to identify and help resolve the concerns and daily inconveniences experienced by foreign residents living in Seoul from the perspective of the foreign residents themselves.


Since 2012, Seoul has been operating the ‘Foreign Resident Seoul Life Observer’ as a policy participation channel for foreign residents. The program plays a role in improving daily life convenience for foreign residents by suggesting improvements to daily life inconveniences, proposing multicultural family policies, and recommending changes to unreasonable laws. Last year, 40 foreign residents from 25 countries participated and requested improvements for a total of 237 various inconveniences encountered in daily life.


The recruitment period for this year’s ‘Foreign Resident Seoul Life Observer’ is until the 9th of next month, with 40 positions available. Applicants must have lived in Seoul for more than one year and be either naturalized citizens or foreigners or marriage immigrants who can speak Korean or English.

The final selection of applicants will be decided through document screening after receiving applications via email, and successful candidates will be individually notified by Tuesday, March 14.


Those selected as ‘Foreign Resident Seoul Life Observers’ will be active for a total of 10 months from March to December this year and will receive a designated activity allowance.


During the recruitment stage, Seoul plans to consider nationality, occupation, and other factors to discover various excellent cases both domestic and international and to collect many opinions on inconveniences faced by foreign residents.

Kim Seon-soon, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Women and Family Policy Office, said, “Seoul is actively listening to the voices of foreign residents living in the city and working to improve inconveniences to create a special city that everyone wants to visit, live in, and work in.” She added, “We hope many foreign residents interested in the 2023 ‘Foreign Resident Seoul Life Observer’ recruitment will participate.”
