The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 26th that it will develop and distribute 'AI Literacy' materials designed to cultivate the ability to critically understand artificial intelligence (AI).
The materials consist of two types: 'Seoul-style AI Ethics Education Materials' for elementary students and 'First Steps in Artificial Intelligence' for teachers.
First, the student materials incorporate the three core values of Seoul Future Education?dignity, inclusion, and coexistence?along with the three fundamental principles of the national-level AI ethics standards. These are integrated to allow students to naturally acquire AI ethics through direct experience with AI technology.
The teacher materials include key AI-related concepts and reasons why AI education is necessary, presented in a Q&A format. They also provide guidance on practical applications in daily life, examples of integrated education, and AI tools that can be used in teaching.
The materials also cover the principles of chatbots, the advantages and disadvantages of 'ChatGPT,' ways to utilize it, and precautions when applying it in education.
The materials will be distributed to each school in e-book format, and starting with a workshop in March, various training sessions for teachers will be supported.
Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "We will actively implement AI education policies for all students so that students living in the AI era not only naturally use AI integrated into their daily lives but also become creative producers who solve problems by utilizing AI."
