[Featured Stock] Mobis Highlights World-Class AI Technology Secured Through Big Science Control...

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Mobis is showing strong performance. As interest in artificial intelligence (AI) technology grows, expectations are rising that Mobis's intelligent control solution applications will expand.

At 11:14 a.m. on the 24th, Mobis was trading at 2,215 KRW, up 23.4% from the previous day.

Mobis is a developer of application software and hardware. It was founded mainly by researchers from Samsung Electronics' Network Business Division and Multimedia Research Lab. In its early days, based on excellent personnel, it supplied multimedia communication terminals and other IT solutions to large corporations such as Samsung Electronics. In 2008, it achieved continuous success in the IT field, including supplying 100,000 video terminals to KT, the first in Korea. The development experience honed through rigorous reliability tests by clients like Samsung Electronics and KT has accumulated extensive hardware and software design and implementation capabilities across various platforms, operating systems (OS), wired and wireless communications and networks, control systems, and programming language development tools.

In 2011, Mobis developed an LLRF control system for accelerators. Subsequently, it succeeded in developing the undulator control system, a device that generates synchrotron radiation in synchrotron accelerators, and the central control system that manages the entire accelerator composed of hundreds of devices. Mobis gradually expanded its business centered on the Pohang 4th generation synchrotron accelerator project.

More than 80% of its personnel are scientists and engineers in the accelerator and nuclear fusion fields, researching, developing, and producing world-class performance and pioneering control systems and equipment.

Mobis uniquely possesses ultra-precision special control technology in Korea using EPICS, a software development platform for controlling big science facilities. Intelligent control solutions are Mobis's future core business, involving machine learning-related projects that continuously secure development capabilities alongside EPICS-based control system development. AI and deep learning are concepts related to machine learning, and Mobis has secured large-scale system control capabilities as well as big data storage, management, and information extraction capabilities through the development of control systems for large facilities such as nuclear fusion and accelerators. To apply these capabilities to intelligent control of communication systems and large-scale production systems, Mobis is developing its own machine learning engine.

Mobis describes the construction projects of large accelerators and nuclear fusion experimental equipment as the most technology-intensive among basic experimental science fields, with significant technology spillover effects into other industries. The precision required for measurement and control in necessary control equipment often reaches unprecedented femtosecond (10 to the minus 15) and nanometer (10 to the minus 9) scales.

Mobis's major customers related to accelerator and nuclear fusion reactor control systems include domestic and international research institutions such as Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL), Institute for Basic Science (IBS), Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI), International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER, France), and National Fusion Research Institute (NFRI). Machine learning solutions projects are conducted targeting universities, research institutions, financial solution companies, and enterprises operating large-scale facilities and systems.

Once Mobis's product performance verification is completed through accelerators constructed domestically, it is expected to have opportunities to participate in large-scale accelerator projects planned overseas as well as enter the medical and industrial small accelerator markets. After the construction of the nuclear fusion power plant demo system in 2030 and the full-scale global commercialization of nuclear fusion power from 2040, Mobis is expected to emerge as a global leader in accelerator and nuclear fusion power control system fields.
