Establishing a Cooperation System Among Relevant Agencies for the Protection of National Key Facilities
An integrated defense drill to prepare for terrorist attacks on major national facilities was conducted on the 23rd.
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters (Head: Park Beom-su) announced on the 24th that it conducted an integrated protection drill involving civilians, government, military, police, and fire departments around the Hanul Energy Farm area to prepare for terrorism.
This drill was conducted under the supervision of the Army 50th Division to establish an integrated anti-terrorism readiness and on-site response operational capability among civilians, government, military, police, and fire departments.
An integrated defense anti-terrorism drill is being conducted at Hanul Energy Farm in Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk.
More than 150 participants, including Hanul Headquarters’ security guards, special security forces, and in-house fire brigade, units under the 50th Division, tactical teams from the Gyeongbuk Police Agency Special Forces, Uljin County police and fire departments, and Uljin County Office radiation measurement teams, took part and worked hard.
The scenario assumed that four unauthorized drones approached the nuclear power plant direction, identified by an RF scanner, and initial response was made by personnel using jamming guns. However, one drone dropped explosives on the Hanul Headquarters building, and terrorists who infiltrated on the ground staged a hostage situation, leading to the continuation of the drill.
Following the situation report by Hanul Headquarters’ security guards, initial measures were taken by the garrison troops within the headquarters. Subsequently, reinforcements from the Uljin Brigade and the police coastal operation strike team were dispatched to search and scout the nuclear power plant area, preserve the original site, control access, and operate checkpoints, leading the initial response process.
After confirming whether there was any radioactive leakage at the explosion site, fire suppression and rescue activities were carried out, followed by the sequential deployment of units under the Army 50th Division to detect additional explosives.
The drill concluded with the suppression of terrorists through aerial reconnaissance, coastal searches around the nuclear power plant, and joint operations by the special forces tactical team and special mission unit.
Head Park Beom-su stated, “We will devote efforts to establish a cooperative system with related agencies to respond to any provocations threatening Hanul Headquarters.”
