[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Asan Social Welfare Foundation held the '2023 Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony' on the 23rd at the auditorium of the Asan Life Sciences Research Institute in Songpa-gu, Seoul.


On this day, the Asan Foundation awarded scholarships totaling 3.5 billion KRW to a total of 502 recipients, including 69 graduate students and 433 undergraduate students.


Graduate scholarship recipients in the biomedical science field include 41 domestic and 22 overseas students, totaling 63, who receive 20 to 40 million KRW annually until graduation. Six graduate students in the health and medical policy field receive 10 million KRW annually until graduation.


Undergraduate scholarship recipients who receive full tuition support until graduation include 17 'Narae Scholars' facing the risk of discontinuing their studies due to financial difficulties, 5 'Dasom Scholars' who overcome physical disabilities to focus on their studies, 5 'Talent Sharing Scholars' who share their knowledge and talents with marginalized neighbors, and 11 'Academic Excellence Scholars.'


Additionally, 230 'MIU (Men In Uniform) Children Scholars' were selected to encourage and instill pride in personnel serving for national safety, including soldiers, police officers, firefighters, and coast guards. Also selected were 100 'Regional Industry-Academia Cooperation Scholars' participating in long-term industrial field training and 65 'North Korean Defector Youth Scholars.'


North Korean Defector Youth Scholars receive an annual academic assistance fund of 6 million KRW, while Narae Scholars and Dasom Scholars receive an additional 2.4 million KRW annually as academic assistance beyond tuition, enabling them to concentrate on their studies in a more stable environment.


The Asan Foundation has continued its scholarship program since its establishment in 1977. To date, it has awarded a total of 85 billion KRW in scholarships to over 36,000 students.
