The district will distribute white traditional overcoats and Taegeukgi flags to citizens participating in the event to share the emotion of that day when the March 1st Movement took place and to promote community harmony and patriotism.

Seoul Jung-gu (District Mayor Kim Gil-sung) hung a large banner on the front of the district office building on the 18th to commemorate the 104th anniversary of Samiljeol and honor the spirit of independence of the ancestors who sacrificed and devoted themselves to restoring national sovereignty.
The banner, measuring 15 meters wide and 9 meters high, vividly depicts the scene of the March 1st Movement’s “Manse” rally, with the fluttering Taegeukgi flag and the shouts of “Long live Korean independence!” seemingly audible.
Additionally, the phrase “As a citizen of Korea, I will stand with activist Yu Gwan-sun’s cry” expresses the determination to carry on Yu Gwan-sun’s noble spirit.
“I am a proud citizen of Korea. As a Korean, I do not need to stand trial by you, nor do you have the right to punish me.”
Reading Yu Gwan-sun’s prison writings next to the Taegeukgi reveals her unwavering will to pursue independence against Japanese imperialism and her fiery life, evoking solemnity.
Jung-gu will hold a ‘Taegeukgi photo certification event’ from February 23 to March 12 to share the meaning of March 1st Movement with residents. Participants can take photos with the Taegeukgi and submit them to the March issue of the Jung-gu newsletter ‘Junggu Plaza’ or Jung-gu’s official SNS accounts. The district plans to select 50 winners and award GS mobile gift certificates worth 10,000 KRW each.
Kim Gil-sung, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, “We exist today because of the March 1st Manse Movement, which our people united to carry out against Japanese imperialism,” and added, “I hope everyone takes this opportunity to remember the spirit of the patriotic martyrs who sacrificed and devoted themselves for national independence by participating in the Samiljeol commemorative events.”
