[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office and Busan Port Authority (BPA) will hold the "2023 1st Busan Maritime Affairs Office·Busan Port Authority Business Council" on the 23rd.
This council is held to enhance the competitiveness of Busan Port and to discuss various issues related to port operations.
The two organizations recognized the need for communication and cooperation among port operation-related agencies in 2018 and have been operating a regular consultative body for the development of Busan Port and prevention of port safety accidents, but it was temporarily suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19.
This business council, held for the first time since COVID-19, will be attended by the heads of the Port Logistics Division, Marine Environment Division, and Aids to Navigation Division of the Busan Maritime Affairs Office, and about 20 officials including the Head of Operations Headquarters, Director of Logistics Policy Office, and Director of Port Operations Office from BPA, including department heads related to the agenda.
Busan Port is currently facing many issues such as the Russia-Ukraine war and the decrease in cargo volume due to global consumption slowdown, realization of eco-friendly ports, and redevelopment of the North Port, requiring close cooperation among port authorities.
This business council is expected to be a communication platform where the two organizations come together to discuss and resolve these issues of Busan Port.
Specifically, many agenda items such as "Activation plan for the introduction of eco-friendly cargo handling equipment," "Normalization of North Port container terminal operations," and "Cooperation in participation in the Busan Port ship antifouling material real-name system" will be discussed.
The two organizations plan to hold regular quarterly business councils starting with the 1st council on the 23rd, working together to resolve port operation-related issues and enhance the competitiveness of Busan Port.
In addition, to increase the effectiveness of the business council, if necessary, they plan to establish a more solid cooperation system between the two organizations through an "Executive Policy Council" involving the heads of the Busan Maritime Affairs Office and BPA.
Yoon Jong-ho, head of the Busan Maritime Affairs Office, said, "The business council among Busan Port authorities, held for the first time since it was temporarily suspended due to COVID-19, will be a meaningful communication platform for the development of Busan Port, and we will work together to make Busan Port a global advanced port."
Kang Jun-seok, president of BPA, said, "When the two organizations responsible for port operations come together, synergy effects can be expected," and added, "Based on the cooperation system, we will continue to actively strive to strengthen the competitiveness of Busan Port."
