CEO Lee Sung-kyu Announces Planned Investment Over the Next 5 Years
Legoland Korea Resort (Legoland) plans to invest around 100 billion KRW over the next five years based on three criteria: things to play, places to stay, and things to see.
On the 22nd, Lee Soon-kyu, CEO of Legoland, stated at a press conference commemorating the opening of the 2023 season held at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, "Due to the nature of the theme park business, we must continuously invest to offer customers something new," revealing this plan.
The expected investment amount over the next five years is estimated to be around 100 billion KRW. CEO Lee said, "It cost about 300 billion KRW to build Legoland Theme Park and Resort," adding, "We need to monitor the situation including the impact of inflation, but we expect to invest about one-third to one-quarter of that amount over five years."
Among the three criteria for investment planned by CEO Lee, "things to play" refers to expanding facilities that children can enjoy, such as various rides and water play areas. "Places to stay" means related investments to create comfortable accommodations. "Things to see" focuses on increasing show-centered viewing events and expanding events where parents and children can participate together. The infrastructure to implement these will be built on the remaining land secured by Legoland.
There are also three new changes Legoland will introduce starting this year. These are night openings, operation of a children's water play area, and the introduction of season passes. Night openings will extend operating hours until 9 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from the end of April to October. Among the ten global cities with Legoland parks, Korea is the first to operate night openings.
The children's water play area will open around July, targeting summer vacationers and holiday visitors. Utilizing approximately 2,750 pyeong (9,091㎡) of remaining land within the theme park, five pools will be installed along with rest areas equipped with parasols and shade tents, and a family event performance hall will be operated.
Season passes for each season are limited-time unlimited access tickets valid during specific seasons. They will be operated with differentiated themes according to the season, such as ▲Spring Park ▲Summer Festival ▲Monster Party ▲Merry Bricksmas.
Additionally, this year’s planned policies include installing shade tents, revising restaurant menus, operating free shuttle buses, strengthening preferential policies for people with disabilities, and the Lego Master Builder program.
CEO Lee emphasized, "Legoland did not come to Korea looking at just one or two years but aims to be a long-term friend and partner," adding, "We will strive to become a landmark of Chuncheon."
