Changwon Seongsan Fire Station, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation ... Saving Lives in the Golden Time

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] The Seongsan Fire Station in Changwon, Gyeongnam, has started promoting the '3 Steps of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)' as interest and necessity for CPR increase.

CPR is an emergency procedure that applies pressure to a stopped heart to supply blood and oxygen to the brain, preventing brain damage and saving a person's life.

If CPR is performed within 1 minute after cardiac arrest, the survival rate reaches over 95%, but if more than 4 minutes of the golden time pass, the brain suffers irreversible damage, and the interruption of oxygen supply leads to severe brain injury or death.

The first step of CPR, 'Wake,' involves checking consciousness by tapping and speaking without shaking the shoulders side to side. The second step, 'Alert,' is to call 119 and request an automated external defibrillator. The third step, 'Press,' is to compress the center of the chest (the lower half of the sternum) with interlocked hands.

Jang Woo-young, Head of the Response and Rescue Division, said, "Please remember the 3 steps of CPR that can save the lives of your beloved family and neighbors in emergencies."
