Daewoo E&C and Jeju Air Sign Agreement for K-UAM Collaboration

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim On-yu] Daewoo E&C announced on the 22nd that it has formed a consortium with Jeju Air for the Korean Urban Air Mobility demonstration project (K-UAM) and signed a basic agreement for the first phase of the Grand Challenge demonstration project led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

This agreement was made to demonstrate the integrated operation of aircraft operation, traffic management, and vertiports. Before the K-UAM project is fully commercialized in 2025, it is necessary to sufficiently verify the safety of the aircraft and aviation laws and establish technology, performance, and operational systems suitable for domestic conditions in the UAM field.

Daewoo E&C will take charge of the design, construction, and operation of vertiports, which serve as airports for UAM, as well as the development of traffic management systems to be established within the vertiports. Jeju Air will be responsible for aircraft operation and related traffic management. Humax Mobility is expected to participate in the battery chargers for flying vehicles within the vertiports and the operation of integrated mobility services.

Baek Jeong-wan, CEO of Daewoo E&C, said, "Through the demonstration of the UAM vertiport sector in this project, we will actively utilize the capabilities of a major Korean construction company. Adding Jeju Air’s know-how will greatly help the commercialization of the K-UAM project."
