An Hyeongjun Appointed as New President of MBC

Officially Appointed at the General Meeting on the 23rd... 3-Year Term

Hyungjun Ahn (56), head of the Planning and Coordination Division at MBC, has been appointed as the new president of MBC.

The Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Foundation (KBCPF), the major shareholder of MBC, held a regular board meeting on the 21st at the KBCPF conference room in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, where two candidates including Ahn underwent a public interview. As a result, Ahn, who received the majority vote, was appointed as the new president.

Appointee Ahn joined the news channel YTN as a reporter in 1994. In 2001, he moved to MBC as an experienced reporter, working in the Unification and Foreign Affairs Department, Social Affairs Department, and International Department. He served as president of the Broadcast Journalists Association in 2018 and has been the head of the Mega MBC Promotion Team since 2021.

In the final interview, Ahn declared, "I will become an impenetrable shield so that those responsible for news can maintain independence and fairness." He also pledged, "As a strategy to regain the lost drama kingdom myth, I will propose content fund investments and a win-win production model with small and medium-sized production companies."

Regarding concerns that, as a career journalist rather than a public recruitment candidate, he might be weak in resolving internal divisions, Ahn emphasized, "I have had many opportunities to observe MBC from the periphery rather than the core, and this is rather an advantage." He added, "I believe that close dialogue through job-specific organizations can resolve issues."

In the management plan he previously submitted, Ahn highlighted key tasks during his term, including ▲forming an external cooperation team for the online video service (OTT) block deal ▲integrating regional MBC transmission systems ▲and establishing a diversity task force (TF).

Ahn will be officially appointed as president at the MBC shareholders' meeting on the 23rd. His term is three years.
