‘Geochang Changpowon’ Recognized for Tourism Growth Potential
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, held a business agreement on the 21st at the county office situation room, attended by County Governor Goo In-mo, Lee Guk-hee, head of the Gyeongnam branch of the Korea Tourism Organization, and six others, to discover and foster small but strong potential tourist destinations with the Korea Tourism Organization Gyeongnam branch.
This agreement aims to jointly develop projects between Geochang-gun and the Korea Tourism Organization Gyeongnam branch so that Geochang Changpowon, selected in late January as part of the small but strong potential tourist destination discovery and fostering contest project, can emerge as a representative small but strong potential tourist destination in the Gyeongnam region.

Taking this agreement as an opportunity, the county will jointly carry out projects with the Korea Tourism Organization Gyeongnam branch for one year through mutual cooperation, including joint online and offline promotional marketing, planning and operating tourism programs, and improving accommodation readiness linked with nearby tourist sites, so that Geochang Changpowon can be reborn as a nationwide tourist attraction.
Governor Goo said, “Following last year’s Geochang Anti-aging Healing Land, it is even more meaningful that Geochang Changpowon was selected as a small but strong potential tourist destination, further proving Geochang’s development potential,” and added, “We will do our best through this business agreement to promote the infinite potential of Geochang-gun’s tourism resources nationwide.”
Geochang Changpowon was designated as the first local garden in Gyeongsangnam-do in 2021 and later as a representative ecological tourism site of Gyeongsangnam-do. It has established itself as an ecological tourism attraction where visitors can enjoy a waterfront ecological garden with seasonal tourism themes throughout the year, as well as various experiential activities within the facility. Recognized for its growth potential, it achieved the remarkable feat of being the only site in Gyeongnam selected as a small but strong potential tourist destination in 2023.
