Electric Vehicle Sales Down 28.5%
Combined Market Share 9.4%... Ranked 4th
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Hyundai Motor Company and Kia sold 85,000 vehicles in Europe last month, marking a 0.7% increase compared to the same month last year.
The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) announced on the 21st that Hyundai and Kia sold 39,350 and 45,094 units respectively in Europe last month. Hyundai saw a 4.5% increase, while Kia experienced a 2.3% decrease.
The best-selling vehicle from Hyundai was the Tucson with 8,471 units sold. Kia's Sportage recorded the highest sales among both companies with 11,329 units. The Kia Ceed, launched targeting the European market, ranked second with 10,675 units sold. In terms of eco-friendly vehicle sales (including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles), the Niro ranked first with 7,109 units. The Tucson (4,849 units) and Kona (3,774 units) followed in second and third place respectively.
Electric vehicle sales totaled 9,753 units, a 28.5% decrease compared to the same month last year. The Niro led with 2,914 units sold, followed by the Ioniq 5 (2,331 units) and EV6 (2,281 units).
The combined market share of Hyundai and Kia was 9.4%, down 0.9 percentage points from the same month last year. Hyundai's share was 4.3%, down 0.3 percentage points, while Kia's was 5.1%, down 0.6 percentage points. The combined market share ranking of the two companies was fourth, following Volkswagen, Stellantis, and Renault.
The number of vehicles using Hyundai Motor Group's dedicated electric vehicle E-GMP platform was 4,879 last month. Among these, the Ioniq 5 and EV6 accounted for most with 2,331 and 2,281 units respectively. The remaining 267 units were Ioniq 6.
