Successor KMH Shilla Leisure Consortium Application
"Replacement of Aging Facilities and Course Renovation"
The Sky72 Golf Course on Yeongjongdo Island in Incheon, which had suspended operations of some facilities due to court-enforced execution, is resolving the confusion and embarking on a renovation.
KMH Shilla Leisure Consortium (currently KX Group), the successor operator of Sky72 Golf Course, announced on the 21st that it has reached an agreement with the previous operator and submitted a change of registration for the sports facility business to Incheon Metropolitan City. They also added that they plan to retain all Sky72 employees and allow course managers (caddies) to continue working.
The administrative processing deadline for the change of registration of the sports facility business is the 20th. While proceeding with the change registration process, KMH Shilla Leisure Consortium also plans to carry out renovation work on the facilities and courses of Sky72 Golf Course.
A representative of KMH Shilla Leisure Consortium said, "We will partially replace the aging clubhouse facilities and renovate the courses to upgrade the quality of the golf course," adding, "We will carry out the related administrative procedures and construction smoothly so that golfers can visit again as soon as possible."
Previously, Sky72 had leased land owned by Incheon International Airport Corporation, the planned site for the construction of the 5th runway at Incheon Airport, and developed and operated a golf course and clubhouse. Incheon International Airport Corporation and Sky72 set the contract termination date as December 31, 2020, when the 5th runway would be constructed, but as the construction of the 5th runway was delayed beyond schedule, they engaged in a legal dispute for over two years. In September 2020, Incheon International Airport Corporation held a public bidding to select a new operator for the golf course, and KMH Shilla Leisure Consortium was chosen as the new operator.
Subsequently, Incheon International Airport Corporation won the final appeal in the 'real estate delivery lawsuit' filed against the Sky72 operator, but the previous operator did not hand over the golf course land to Incheon International Airport Corporation. Accordingly, the Incheon District Court Enforcement Office completed the forced execution on the Sea Course (54 holes) within Sky72 Golf Course on the 17th of last month. During this process, a clash occurred between the employees of the service company representing the facility lessee and the court enforcement officers.
