Gangdong-gu Selected as Top Grade (Excellent) in 2022 Local Government Innovation Evaluation
Conducted by Ministry of the Interior and Safety among 243 Local Governments, Ranked 5th among 69 Autonomous Districts
Received Excellent Ratings in Most Indicators Including ‘Leader’s Innovation Leadership’ and ‘Achievements in Eliminating Public Service Blind Spots’
Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced on the 21st that it received the highest (Excellent) grade in the ‘2022 Local Government Innovation Evaluation’ conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The ‘Local Government Innovation Evaluation’ is a competition where the Ministry of the Interior and Safety comprehensively evaluates the efforts and achievements of 243 local governments (17 metropolitan and 226 basic) for regional innovation. It is an evaluation system conducted by the ‘Ministry of the Interior and Safety Local Government Innovation Evaluation Team’ and the ‘Public Evaluation Team,’ composed of private experts, across five areas: ▲institutional autonomous innovation ▲participation and cooperation ▲resident-tailored administration ▲work method innovation ▲innovation diffusion and public perception.
The evaluation sums innovation performance scores by indicator and classifies them into three grades: excellent, average, and insufficient. Notably, Gangdong-gu ranked 5th among 69 autonomous districts, a significant rise of 12 places from last year’s 17th place (grade: average), earning financial incentives and government commendations.
Since the launch of the 8th elected term, the district has worked hard to restore administrative trust through bold organizational restructuring and consolidation of low-efficiency projects, while contributing greatly not only to welfare improvement but also job creation through early response to child abuse via public-private cooperation, emergency bell support for elderly living alone, customized education for digitally marginalized groups, and tailored employment linkage projects for small and medium hospitals and clinics.
Recognized for these efforts, Gangdong-gu received excellent evaluations in 6 out of 10 indicators, including ‘leader’s innovation leadership’ and ‘achievements in eliminating public service blind spots.’ This reflects Gangdong-gu’s efforts and concrete results in local government innovation.
Mayor Lee Soo-hee said, “In 2023, we will do our best to improve innovative administrative services that enhance residents’ happiness and allow them to feel the changes.”
