'Jobs Are the Best Welfare!' Pohang City Holds Launch Ceremony for Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project

10 Implementing Agencies, 29 Eup/Myeon/Dong, Over 400 Senior Job Participants Attended

This Year, 32 Billion KRW Including National and Provincial Funds Invested to Create 17,000 Jobs

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 20th, Pohang City held a launch ceremony for the Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project, attended by about 400 elderly job participants from 10 executing organizations including Pohang Senior Club and 29 eup, myeon, and dong districts.

Pohang City Holds Launch Ceremony for Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project Mayor Lee Gang-deok, City Council Chairman Baek In-gyu, along with 10 executing organizations including the Pohang Senior Club, and over 400 elderly job participants from 29 towns and townships held a launching ceremony.

At the launch ceremony, the atmosphere was elevated with a dance performance by participants in social service-type jobs and a singing performance by the Happy Teacher of Senior Centers, who works as a coordinator for 626 senior center programs and welfare activities within Pohang City.


During the main event, a video showcasing last year’s senior job project contents and activities was screened, and awards were presented to contributors to the job and social activity support project.


Following this, a pledge for the safe execution of senior jobs was read aloud, and the event concluded with everyone shouting the slogan, “We protect our own safety.”


After the ceremony, safety management education was provided by an instructor from the Gyeongbuk Province Traffic Culture Training Center for the participating seniors’ safety, and dementia awareness improvement promotional education was conducted by the Dementia Safety Center of Pohang City Nam-gu Public Health Center. Additionally, side events included elderly abuse prevention promotion by the Elder Protection Agency and health checks and consultations for seniors by the Nam-gu Public Health Center.


In response to the era of 100-year lifespans, Pohang City plans to invest a total budget of 32 billion KRW this year, including national and provincial funds, aiming to create a total of 17,000 senior jobs through 48 public-type jobs under city departments, 10 private-sector job executing organizations, as well as internships, talent sharing, and corporate placement.


Mayor Kang-deok Lee said, “I hope that the senior job and social activity support project will be a good opportunity for the excellent experience and knowledge of the elderly to be returned to society, and I ask the seniors to especially pay attention to safety while participating in the project.” He added, “We will continue to strive to discover various jobs so that seniors can enjoy a healthy and active old age.”
