Why a Chinese Man Has Been Running Marathons Pushing a Stroller for 7 Years

Son with intelligence level of 1-2 years pushed in stroller during marathon
Participated in 56 races, striving to inspire hope

A story has gone viral about a Chinese father who completed a marathon pushing his autistic son in a stroller to show him a wider world.

According to China Central Television (CCTV) on the 19th, a man crossed the finish line pushing a stroller with his child during a marathon held in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province that morning. Spectators watching the scene cheered and applauded them.

The protagonists of the story are Luo Sujian (45) and his son Xiao Bai (13), who live in Zhejiang Province. Xiao Bai suffered brain damage at birth and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at six months old. Despite years of rehabilitation treatment, Xiao Bai's intelligence is reported to be at the level of a 1- to 2-year-old, and he cannot walk on his own.

To show his son, who stayed at home all the time, a wider world and to instill hope, Luo Sujian started running marathons. However, running a marathon while pushing a stroller was no easy task. Therefore, Luo Sujian built up his stamina by running for more than an hour every early morning.

The marathon, started for his son, has now reached its seventh year. Luo Sujian said, "I want to show my son a wider world by running marathons together," adding, "I want to travel around various places with my son so that he has no regrets about coming into this world."

The father and son have reportedly participated in 56 large and small marathons across more than 20 cities. Luo Sujian said, "Xiao Bai likes lively environments," and "It seems my son enjoys this process and wants to see the outside world."

Netizens who heard the news expressed various reactions such as "It's fortunate that the child has good parents," "All parents share the same heart," and "Respectable paternal love."
