Recently, due to the rapid growth of the food delivery industry influenced by COVID-19, many social problems have arisen as citizens experience increased inconvenience from motorcycle noise caused by delivery motorcycles along roadsides and residential areas, but finding solutions has not been easy.

Accordingly, the Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee designated 2023 as the "Year for Creating a City Free of Motorcycle Noise" and announced that it will carry out a "Joint Crackdown on Motorcycle Traffic Noise" as a practical measure.

The Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee and others have been conducting joint crackdowns on various traffic violations that threaten traffic safety and cause citizen inconvenience. However, this joint crackdown is characterized by focusing on motorcycle noise violations, unlike previous crackdowns which mainly targeted automobile violations.

Through this joint crackdown, although the motorcycle noise did not reach the allowable noise standard (105dB), motorcycle drivers who caused loud noise that could threaten other drivers were guided, and 12 violations including illegal motorcycle modifications were caught on site.

The Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee plans to continuously strengthen measures to reduce motorcycle noise within Seoul city.

Kim Hak-bae, Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee, stated, “The loud noise from motorcycles causes anxiety among surrounding drivers and is a serious social problem that must be eradicated, especially as citizens in residential areas suffer from noise-related distress.” He added, “We ask drivers to actively cooperate in creating a safe motorcycle driving culture that complies with laws and standards.”
