[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 20th that it will promote the '2023 School Year Friendly Relationship Dream Project Season 1, Building Relationships' to prevent school violence.
Unlike previous programs that mainly focused on relationship recovery for students after school violence incidents occurred, this project is designed to help students establish harmonious peer relationships from the beginning of the semester.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education plans to dispatch professional instructors to a total of 233 elementary, middle, and high schools from this month, the intensive preparation period for the new semester, until the 7th of next month, to strengthen school staff's capacity to respond to school violence.
From the 13th to the 31st of next month, after the semester starts, the 'Relationship Dream Support Team,' which includes the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Student Education Center and 18 specialized organizations, will visit schools to conduct group counseling and encourage active communication among students.
Students will form groups to have time for self-introductions and discussions about their mutual expectations. Additionally, programs designed to foster closeness through collaborative activities such as passing through hoops together have been planned.
The Office of Education explained that about 400 schools, approximately 30% of all schools in Seoul, have applied for the program.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education expects that by expanding and operating relationship recovery programs both before and after school violence incidents through this project, the paradigm of school violence prevention education will shift.
Furthermore, they plan to promote the 'Relationship Connection' program as Season 2 to respond when school violence occurs, and the relationship-building program during the semester as Season 3.
