Hanwha Introduces K-Weapons Systems at Middle East's Largest Defense Exhibition

Hanwha Defense 3 Companies Participate in the Middle East's Largest Defense Exhibition

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Pyeonghwa] Hanwha is participating in a defense industry exhibition held in the Middle East, a strategic hub for defense exports, showcasing Korea's representative weapon systems and advanced technologies such as radar.

Hanwha Aerospace, Hanwha Systems, and Hanwha Defense, three Hanwha-affiliated defense companies, will participate in the international defense industry exhibition 'IDEX 2023' held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), starting on the 20th (local time).

The three Hanwha defense companies will operate an integrated exhibition hall of 186㎡ (approximately 60 pyeong). Hanwha Aerospace, which consolidated weapon system capabilities by merging Hanwha Defense last November and Hanwha Defense again in April, will play a leading role. Hanwha Systems, which possesses technology in software, information and communication technology (ICT), and military radar fields, will also participate.

These companies will showcase an ‘Integrated Defense Solution’ applicable to future battlefields at this exhibition. The scenario involves the Redback infantry fighting vehicle (Hanwha Aerospace) equipped with the Cheonggeom (Hanwha Defense), a surface-to-surface missile, conducting operations on the front line, while the K9 self-propelled howitzer (Hanwha Aerospace) performs ground operations within 40 km in the rear. Hanwha Systems provides a hyper-connected defense solution that dominates the battlefield by sharing real-time battlefield situation information detected by a micro SAR satellite through low-earth orbit communication satellites and ground networks, connecting everything as one.

At this exhibition, Hanwha Systems will introduce four cutting-edge multifunction radars, including the export-type multifunction radar applied to Cheongung 2, which was exported to the UAE in January last year, long-range multifunction radar, multi-target simultaneous engagement multifunction radar, and active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar. The company explains that these technologies are expected to attract the interest of buyers in the Middle East region who are pursuing battlefield technology modernization.

Oh Seongcheol, CEO of Hanwha Systems, said, “We will showcase already proven weapon systems and advanced defense solutions based on hyper-connectivity at this exhibition. We will explore cooperation opportunities with local partners and seek export opportunities to demonstrate the status of Korea’s representative defense companies.”
