Confirmed Reputation as the Nation's Top Difficult Exhibition
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 20th that the 4th Korea Chunlan Unregistered Variety National Competition was successfully held again this year.
With over 500 entries submitted, marking the largest scale ever, the event reaffirmed its reputation as the top orchid exhibition in Korea. After fierce competition, the grand prize went to Jeong Moon-cheol from Hamyang for his entry of Jungtuhwa.
The special second prize was awarded to Moon Man-sik (Jugeum Sosim) and Lee Cheol-hee (Jungtuho), while the special third prize went to Yeom Kyung-joo (Sanbanhwa) and Jeong Hee-soo (Sanban).
The Korea Chunlan Unregistered Variety National Competition is the only orchid exhibition in Korea that selects Chunlan orchids with future value among unregistered varieties. This year marked its 4th edition. Hosted by Hapcheon-gun and jointly organized by the International Dan Culture Foundation and Hapcheon Orchid Association, it was supported by orchid enthusiasts and orchid organizations nationwide.
This year’s competition saw massive participation from orchid growers across the country, producing 112 award-winning works besides the grand prize winner. The exhibition was held over two days, from the 18th to the 19th, at Hapcheon Gymnasium.
Alongside the award-winning exhibition, orchid sales and local agricultural specialty product booths were operated, attracting over 3,000 visitors over the two days, making the event a great success.
Additionally, for the first time this year, special awards such as the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award, Gyeongnam Provincial Governor Award, and aT President Award were introduced, elevating the prestige of the competition.
Mayor Kim Yoon-chul stated, “Along with orchid culture promotion projects such as hosting the Unregistered Variety National Competition, we are implementing various orchid industry development policies. Please watch and support the growth of Hapcheon as the mecca of the orchid industry.”
Since 2019, Hapcheon has been establishing itself as the center of the Korean Chunlan industry by promoting the Korean Chunlan seedling farm project to pioneer the gift orchid market and supporting individual farms with orchid cultivation projects.
