Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon posted on his SNS on the 18th to mark the 20th anniversary of the Daegu subway disaster.

On that day, Governor Kim posted on his social network service (SNS), "Today is the 20th anniversary of the Daegu subway disaster," adding, "Since the disaster 20 years ago, all materials inside the subway have been replaced with non-combustible materials."
He continued, "Not forgetting and practicing the lessons of the disaster is the minimum responsibility of the public," and introduced, "After the fire in the (Gwacheon) highway soundproof tunnel at the end of last year, Gyeonggi Province suspended 12 soundproof tunnel projects that were being constructed with combustible materials."
He also stated, "We are promoting the replacement of already built soundproof tunnels with non-combustible materials together with cities and counties. Gyeonggi Province will fulfill its public responsibility to prevent the repetition of disasters and sacrifices," and expressed, "We offer our deepest condolences to those who lost their lives in the disaster 20 years ago."
The Daegu subway disaster occurred on February 18, 2003, at 9:53 a.m. at Jungangno Station on Daegu Subway Line 1, when a man in his 50s set fire, resulting in 192 passengers on the subway dying and 151 injured. Among them, the identities of six victims have not been confirmed, and they remain as unclaimed victims.
