The movie 'The First Slam Dunk' became the first film released this year to surpass 3 million viewers.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated box office system on the 17th, 'The First Slam Dunk' attracted 33,287 viewers on the 16th, ranking second at the box office. Since its release on April 4th, it has surpassed a cumulative audience of 3,012,280 in 44 days.
'The First Slam Dunk' surpassed 'Howl's Moving Castle' (2.61 million viewers) to become the second highest-grossing Japanese animation of all time. Attention is on whether it will also surpass the first place, 'Your Name.' (3.79 million viewers).
The Marvel new release 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,' which opened on the 15th, ranked first with a real-time reservation rate of 41.7% (191,996 people) as of 10 a.m. on the 17th, while 'The First Slam Dunk' ranked second with 21.8% (100,116 people).
The production company stated, "Riding the wave of 'The First Slam Dunk's' box office success, we have confirmed an IMAX screening in April and are preparing to meet audiences in a new format."
The film captures the unstoppable passion, dreams, and challenges of the four members of the Buk San High School basketball team, who dream of dominating nationwide. It was adapted for the screen by Takehiko Inoue, the original author of the manga 'Slam Dunk,' which was serialized in a weekly magazine from 1990 to 1996.
