Final Research Report Meeting, 13 Projects in 5 Major Fields
Total Budget 212 Billion KRW, "Citizen Benefit Vision"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Ulsan City will hold the final briefing session for the "Ulsan City Marine Ecosystem Conservation and Management Detailed Action Plan Establishment" research project at 3 p.m. on the 17th in the medium conference room on the 4th floor of the city hall main building.
This project analyzes the current status, characteristics, management conditions, and prospects of the marine ecosystem along the Ulsan coast to establish detailed action strategies suited to marine characteristics. The Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Pukyong National University is in charge of the research project, which started in April last year and will be completed by the end of this month.
The "Marine Ecosystem Conservation and Management Detailed Action Plan" has the vision of the benefits of the marine ecosystem enjoyed together with citizens.
It also presents three main goals: "Conservation of marine biodiversity through environmental improvement," "Continuous restoration and creation of the marine ecosystem," and "Efficient management of the marine ecosystem."
To achieve this, five major promotion strategies and 13 tasks (27 projects) have been planned.
The tasks by strategy include △ Conservation of marine biodiversity (marine environment improvement, creation of habitats for marine protected species, conservation and restoration of coastal ecological corridors) △ Restoration and creation of the marine ecosystem (natural rock improvement, creation of underwater forests, and artificial reef management, etc.) △ Enhancement of marine ecosystem service benefits (improvement of supply, regulation, and cultural services).
Additionally, △ Advancement of marine ecosystem management infrastructure (activation of marine ecosystem surveys and education, establishment of observation systems, etc.) △ Systematization of private cooperation (governance) in marine ecosystem management (establishment of public-private-industry-academia cooperation systems, strengthening cooperation between neighboring cities and provinces) will be promoted.
The project period is 10 years (2023?2032), and the total project cost is estimated at 212 billion KRW.
An official from Ulsan City said, "Through this project, we will establish a comprehensive conservation and management action plan for the Ulsan coast, which has been damaged by industrialization and urbanization, and promote systematic and sustainable marine ecosystem conservation and management policies."
The marine ecosystem conservation and management detailed action plan is established every 10 years according to the Marine Ecosystem Act.
