LG Uplus Supports Earthquake Relief Efforts in Turkey and Syria

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] LG Uplus announced on the 17th that it will provide donations and emergency relief supplies to help the people of Turkey and Syria who suffered damage from a large-scale earthquake.

The relief donations will be raised through voluntary contributions from LG Uplus employees and additional donations supported by the company. LG Uplus employees can participate in donations through the Korean Red Cross until the 3rd of next month. The company plans to donate an amount equal to the total donations collected during the period through a 1:1 matching scheme.

Winter supplies will also be delivered to local disaster victims who lost their homes due to the earthquake. LG Uplus plans to urgently supply and donate about 10,000 blankets to help the victims maintain their body temperature. Previously, LG Uplus decided to donate blankets, which are the most needed items for local disaster victims, reflecting the opinions of the Embassy of Turkey in Korea and the Korean Red Cross.

Additionally, LG Uplus will provide roaming fee support for volunteers conducting relief activities in Turkey. To this end, the company is cooperating with organizations such as KCOC (Korea NGO Council for Overseas Development Cooperation) and KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) to identify volunteers belonging to domestic relief organizations dispatched to the area.

Furthermore, LG Uplus plans to support international call charges so that Korean residents living in Turkey and Syria, their families in Korea, and Turkish and Syrian nationals staying in Korea can communicate freely.

An LG Uplus official said, “To fulfill our corporate social responsibility, we have joined efforts to support the people of Turkey who suffered great damage from the large-scale earthquake,” adding, “Through the establishment of an emergency relief fund involving our employees, we hope LG Uplus’s positive influence can bring hope to Turkey and Syria.”
