Geochang-gun, Nationwide Top Level Support for Electric Vehicle Subsidies

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is starting the application process for the ‘2023 Electric Vehicle Supply Project’ to create a pleasant air environment by reducing fine dust and greenhouse gas emissions.


The county will invest a budget of 3.5 billion KRW, an increase of 1.1 billion KRW from last year, to supply a total of 172 electric vehicles (93 passenger cars and 79 cargo vehicles) in two rounds during the first and second halves of the year.


In the first half, passenger cars will be supported with a total of 84 units: ▲66 general units ▲9 priority support units (for persons with disabilities, low-income households, war veterans and independence activists, small business owners, multi-child families, replacement purchase of old diesel vehicles with electric vehicles, first-time vehicle buyers) ▲9 taxis.

Cargo vehicles will be supported with a total of 70 units: ▲42 general units ▲7 priority support units ▲14 units for delivery volume ▲7 units for small and medium-sized enterprises.


Passenger car subsidies will provide up to 18.3 million KRW for medium and large vehicles, and cargo vehicles will receive up to 23.5 million KRW for small vehicles, making it the largest scale nationwide based on last year’s standards.


Eligible applicants include individuals aged 18 or older, individual business owners, and corporations who have resided in Geochang-gun for at least 90 days from the date of application for electric vehicle purchase support. Selection will be made in order of vehicle delivery and registration until the budget is exhausted.

County Governor Gu In-mo stated, “We will take the lead in popularizing electric vehicles in line with the realization of carbon neutrality by 2050 and the government’s policy to expand the supply of eco-friendly vehicles. By March, we will additionally install 5 rapid and 55 slow electric vehicle charging stations to eliminate charging blind spots and transform Geochang-gun into a leader in responding to the climate crisis.”
