Thorough Disaster Management ... Jeong Jong-bok, Gijang County Governor, Expresses Commitment to Realizing a Safe Gijang

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan Gijang-gun expressed its determination to realize a safe Gijang by establishing effective resident protection measures and a disaster response system during the head of institution interview for the 2023 Disaster Management Evaluation hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 15th.


The Disaster Management Evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of the disaster management performance of regional disaster management responsible agencies based on the "Disaster and Safety Management Basic Act," and has been conducted annually since 2005 under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.


In the interview, Jeong Jong-bok, head of Gijang-gun, as the overall disaster management leader of the region, explained ▲ the vision and promotion plans for disaster management ▲ the greatest risk factors in Gijang-gun and improvement plans ▲ promotion plans by organization, personnel, and budget to strengthen capabilities in the disaster safety field, stating that administrative power will be concentrated to realize a safe Gijang.


In particular, emphasizing that Gijang-gun occupies 28.5% of the total area of Busan and is the largest nuclear power plant-dense city in Korea, he said that ▲ expanding disaster early warning systems and maintaining disaster prevention facilities for active disaster response ▲ reorganizing response manuals by disaster type ▲ conducting effective disaster response drills ▲ strengthening cooperation systems with related organizations will minimize damage through rapid disaster response in emergencies to protect the lives and property of residents.

Jeong Jong-bok said, “Disaster safety is the core of the 8th civilian administration’s direction and a prerequisite for the development of the county government and the happiness of residents,” adding, “We will make thorough disaster management the cornerstone of ‘Gijang, a city embracing happiness and opening the future.’”


Gijang-gun is proceeding with the procedure to provide disaster basic income of 300,000 won per resident to overcome the economic difficulties of residents caused by the prolonged COVID-19 disaster situation and the heating cost crisis, and to revitalize the local economy.
