Mokpo Port Festival Selected as Jeollanam-do's 'Representative Festival' for 2 Consecutive Years

Held in October... Support for Budget, Consulting, and Festival Promotion

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] The Mokpo Port Festival has been selected as a representative festival of Jeollanam-do again this year, following last year.

According to Mokpo City on the 16th, Jeollanam-do actively supports representative festivals that have high resident participation and regional economic ripple effects, making them festivals that tourists trust and enjoy visiting.

The 10 festivals selected this time were evaluated as resident-led festivals featuring exhibition spaces, parades, and performances directly involving residents.

Accordingly, the city will receive various support including a budget of 20 million won, expert festival consulting, and festival promotion.

The Mokpo Port Festival, which is also a preliminary designated festival by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is the only port festival in Korea themed around the ‘Pasi,’ a fish market that used to be held on the sea.

Last year, while highlighting the original purpose of inheriting and developing the tradition of Pasi, it introduced new content and spatial arrangements to present the image of a young port city to local residents.

The city plans to challenge the evaluation of cultural tourism festivals by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which is designated every two years at the end of this year, to further enhance the brand of the Port Festival.

Mayor Park Hong-ryul stated, “We will do our best to be selected as a cultural tourism festival designated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism this year,” and added, “We will focus administrative power so that the Port Festival can become a driving force in creating a global tourist city.”

Meanwhile, this year’s Mokpo Port Festival is scheduled to be held from October 20 to 22 around Mokpo Port.
