Ahn Dae-woong, Vice President of Hynix, "Increasing Semiconductor Productivity through Data Analysis"

SK Hynix's Semiconductor Data Expert

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sunmi] “Data analysis capability is the key to strengthening competitiveness."

Vice President An Dae-woong, known as a semiconductor data expert at SK Hynix, is confident that precise data analysis and structuring can further enhance semiconductor productivity. As the head of the Data Intelligence organization, he is a figure who is accelerating digital transformation (DT) centered on data at SK Hynix and creating innovative systems in various fields.

In an interview with the SK Hynix Newsroom on the 16th, Vice President An said, “Even producing a single wafer generates a vast amount of data,” adding, “If we make quick decisions through accurate data analysis and structuring, productivity can be further improved.” The Data Intelligence organization is a department that integrally manages data, analysis, and system development within SK Hynix.

Vice President An, who believes it is important to become a ‘data expert in the semiconductor field,’ has set nurturing such talent as his biggest goal. He said, “SK Hynix’s data should not be viewed as just ‘numbers’ but must be considered together with ‘semiconductors.’ We plan to actively support our members at the organizational level so that they can play the role of ‘problem solvers’ by utilizing data analysis through active communication with the actual field.”

He continued, “The worse the semiconductor market conditions are, the more we need to act not for the performance or immediate profits of our own organization but for company-wide performance and greater benefits,” adding, “In this regard, I believe our organization, which gathers company-wide data to derive meaningful conclusions, has a lot of work to do.”

From the perspective of a data expert, he also shared his views on overcoming the semiconductor market crisis. He aims to integrate and analyze scattered data to build a ‘data-driven decision-making system.’ Vice President An said, “The influence of data will continue to grow, and data-based decision-making will become more common,” adding, “Our organization plans to integrate and operate even more data than now and focus on finding hidden insights within it.”

Additionally, Vice President An emphasized the importance of ‘internalizing technology solutions.’ If the company can build systems to solve currently externally dependent solutions within its own capabilities, efficiency can be greatly improved. He expressed his ambition to work on improving company systems from a DT perspective, saying that now is rather an opportunity for innovation.
