Chinese Hacker Group 'Xiaoqiying' Launches Additional Attacks on Five Domestic Servers

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] A Chinese hacker group has launched additional attacks on five domestic servers. They also hacked 12 academic institutions during the recent Lunar New Year holiday.

The Chinese hacker organization 'Xiaoqiying' announced the recruitment of new members in a Telegram chat room on the 14th and disclosed the additional hacking incidents. Among the servers attacked this time, two suffered page defacement attacks. The remaining three are currently inaccessible.

Authorities have informed the server operators about the hacking incidents and are reportedly working on recovery efforts. However, the authorities assess that the hacking risk level is not high.

Xiaoqiying hacked 12 academic institutions, including the Korean Language Society, the Korean Archaeological Society, and the Korean Parents' Association, from the 22nd to the 25th of last month, followed by defacement attacks.

On the 26th of last month, while recruiting new members, they demanded that applicants infiltrate five Korean government agencies or institutions, extract information, deface web pages, and display their IDs as a condition for joining.

They also released files claiming to be databases of the 12 academic institutions on Telegram chat rooms and the dark web.
