[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Dr. Shin Joon-sik, founder of Jaseng Korean Medicine Hospital, generously donated scholarships again this year following last year to support prospective Korean medicine doctors.

Jaseng Korean Medicine Hospital announced on the 15th that it held the '2nd Jaseng Shin Joon-sik Scholarship' award ceremony. Dr. Shin contributed approximately 120 million KRW of his private funds to support students from 12 Korean medicine colleges and graduate schools nationwide who are dedicated to their studies. At the non-face-to-face ceremony, 12 scholarship recipients received scholarships and certificates. The selected undergraduate and graduate students receive full tuition scholarships for one academic year.

The 'Jaseng Shin Joon-sik Scholarship' is a scholarship program established according to Dr. Shin’s intention to discover outstanding talents in the Korean medicine field, nurture them as global leaders, and contribute to the future development of Korean medicine by supporting the tuition fees of prospective Korean medicine doctors. Through a comprehensive evaluation process including personality, potential for growth, extracurricular activities, and financial situation, one outstanding student from each of the 12 Korean medicine colleges and graduate schools nationwide was selected, totaling 12 recipients.

In particular, the future study plans written by the scholarship recipients themselves were also included in the evaluation criteria. All recipients pledged to integrate Korean medicine with their respective areas of interest and strive for the globalization of Korean medicine. One recipient, who was diagnosed with hearing loss in one ear during elementary school and recently developed hearing loss in both ears, was unable to concentrate on studies but can now focus on academics with peace of mind thanks to the scholarship. Another recipient, a lifelong learner at the age of 52, was selected as a scholarship student while doing their best to become a Korean medicine doctor, fulfilling their lifelong dream.

Students selected as scholarship recipients are given the opportunity to participate in the 'JS Leaders Internship Program' conducted by Jaseng Medical Academy, the global medical education institution of Jaseng Korean Medicine Hospital. During the internship, they can receive education and practical training on Jaseng Korean Medicine Hospital’s treatment methods alongside domestic and international students. Additionally, various activities will provide an experiential platform to develop the qualities required as prospective Korean medicine doctors.

Dr. Shin said, "I hope this scholarship becomes a valuable nourishment for prospective Korean medicine doctors who will lead the future of Korean medicine," adding, "I will continue to support them wholeheartedly so that they can grow into talents who will lead the standardization, scientification, and globalization of Korean medicine in various fields as Korean medicine doctors equipped with both medical skills and humanity."
