On the 6th, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Gaziantep, Turkey (near the Syrian border), causing massive casualties and creating an urgent need for international aid.

Turkey is a brotherly country that sent the fourth largest military force during the Korean War, helping to establish today’s Republic of Korea and Gyeongbuk Province. In 2001, Gyeongbuk Province and Bursa, Turkey, formed a sister city relationship, and in 2013, they co-hosted the Gyeongju World Culture Expo in Istanbul, reflecting a special bond between Gyeongbuk Province and Turkey.

Gyeongbuk Provincial Council Chairman Bae Han-cheol expressed, “We extend our condolences to the victims of the major earthquake disaster and offer our deepest sympathies to the people of Turkey and Syria who are suffering from severe earthquake damage.” He added, “We hope for miraculous rescues and swift recovery efforts so that the displaced residents in the affected areas can return to their daily lives as soon as possible.”
