[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] A volunteer firefighter from Gwangsan Fire Station in Gwangju saved a citizen who lost consciousness due to cardiac arrest in a bathhouse.

Kim Kang-nam, a 56-year-old volunteer firefighter at Gwangsan Fire Station, quickly rescued a man in his 60s who was found unconscious and floating in water at a bathhouse in Jinwol-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, around 9 a.m. on the 13th.

After requesting a 119 emergency call from those nearby, he moved the patient outside the hot bath and secured the airway to perform chest compressions.

The patient’s heartbeat returned to normal thanks to Kim’s appropriate initial response and the emergency treatment provided by the 119 paramedics, and he is currently recovering while receiving treatment at a hospital.

On the 15th, Kim said, “The professional training I received when entering the fire academy as a volunteer firefighter and the first aid training I regularly received at the fire station were of great help,” adding, “It was something I naturally had to do as a volunteer firefighter.”
