Three C-130 Transport Aircraft Arrive in Australia on the 21st in Separate Flights
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] The Air Force's special flight team, the Black Eagles, will participate in the Avalon Airshow in Australia for the first time.
On the 15th, the Air Force announced that the Black Eagles took off from Wonju Base to participate in the '2023 Australia Avalon International Airshow' held at Avalon Airport in Melbourne, Australia.
The Avalon Airshow, held from February 28 to March 5, will see the participation of over 120 personnel, including 11 Black Eagles pilots and maintenance staff. Nine Black Eagles T-50B aircraft (including one reserve plane) will be deployed along with the personnel on three C-130 transport aircraft. The transport planes are scheduled to arrive at Avalon Airport on the 21st after stopping over in three countries, including the Philippines and Indonesia.
The Australia Avalon Airshow was first held in 1992 and has been held biennially since 1995. The Black Eagles have been considering participation in the Avalon Airshow at the request of the Australian side since 2020. However, the 2021 airshow was canceled due to COVID-19, causing the plan to fall through.
The Air Force special flight team Black Eagles first participated in the UK International Airshow in 2012 and have since participated in the Singapore Airshow in 2014 and 2016, and the Malaysia Airshow in 2017. After participating in the UK International Airshow last July, they have also visited Poland, Egypt, and the Philippines to actively support South Korea's defense exports.
Colonel Seo Young-jun, former commander of the Black Eagles, said, "All mission personnel have prepared with one heart for a successful participation in the Avalon Airshow," adding, "We will once again showcase the excellence of the Republic of Korea Air Force and domestically produced aircraft on the world stage."
