Yongin City Conducts Safety Inspections at 96 Large Construction Sites Ahead of Thawing Season Yongin City Hall Panorama

[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is set to conduct safety inspections at 96 large-scale construction sites ahead of the thawing season.

Yongin City announced on the 15th that, with rising temperatures causing the ground frozen during winter to thaw and raising concerns about safety accidents such as the collapse of earth retaining walls or formworks, it will carry out safety inspections targeting 96 large-scale construction sites in the area with a total floor area exceeding 2,000㎡.

To this end, the city has organized inspection teams into three groups to examine risks of ground subsidence and structural collapse at construction sites by the 24th of this month.

In particular, this inspection will focus intensively on construction sites vulnerable during the thawing period. It will check the appropriateness of excavation slope angles at excavation sites where the depth exceeds 10 meters and the measurement management status of earth retaining walls.

Additionally, the safety status of scaffolding work will be inspected, including whether temporary structures with a high risk of overturning and fall prevention nets are installed at temporary construction sites.

If the inspection results indicate an urgent need for safety measures due to disaster risk, the city plans to order immediate repairs on-site or issue correction orders.

A city official stated, "We are conducting inspections to proactively respond to factors causing safety accidents due to ground weakening during the thawing season," adding, "We will create a safe construction environment through thorough preliminary inspections."
