[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] The US Consumer Price Index (CPI) for January recorded a 6.4% increase compared to the previous year. Compared to the previous month, it was 0.5%.


[Breaking] US January Consumer Price Index Up 6.4%... Exceeds Expectations

According to the US Department of Labor on the 14th (local time), the January CPI was 6.4% year-over-year, exceeding Bloomberg's estimate of 6.2%.


Bloomberg forecasted a 0.5% increase month-over-month, while Dow Jones predicted 0.4%. In December last year, the CPI was 6.2% year-over-year and 0.1% month-over-month.


For the core CPI, January showed 5.6% year-over-year and 0.4% month-over-month. Wall Street expectations were 0.4% month-over-month and 5.5% year-over-year.
