Yeosu City Supports 90% of Crop Disaster Insurance Premiums for Natural Disaster Preparedness

Application for Regional Nonghyup Headquarters and Branches to Promote Farmers' Management Stability

[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it will support 'crop disaster insurance premiums' to stabilize farm management against natural disasters such as drought, typhoons, and heatwaves.

The city will invest 510 million KRW this year to cover 90% of crop disaster insurance premiums. Farmers only need to bear 10% of the cost.

The eligible crops for enrollment include 67 items such as apples, pears, persimmons, and citrus fruits.

Even if farmers cultivate insured crops, the enrollment period varies depending on the sowing and harvesting seasons, so farmers should visit their local agricultural cooperative to check the enrollment period.

Enrollment can be done by farmers or corporations cultivating insured crops by visiting the main or branch offices of the local agricultural cooperative during the enrollment period.

After applying for insurance enrollment, on-site verification is conducted, and once the application form is completed and the premium is paid, the insurance policy is issued, confirming the applicant as an insurance support beneficiary.

However, farmland with an insurance enrollment amount (production value) of less than 2 million KRW is excluded from the insurance coverage.

A city official stated, "Due to the recent frequent abnormal weather, it has become difficult to predict and prepare for disasters," and added, "Since crop disaster insurance is a minimum safety measure, we ask for active participation in enrollment."
