"Our Babies!" Nurses Rushing to the Neonatal Room Despite the Gangjin Horror

Praise for Turkish Nurse CCTV Footage

As devastating earthquakes struck T?rkiye and Syria, causing widespread damage, local obstetric nurses in T?rkiye were seen protecting children first even as buildings shook, a scene that has touched many.

On the 13th (local time), Fahrettin Koca, T?rkiye's Minister of Health, posted CCTV footage from inside a hospital in the southern Gaziantep region on Twitter. The video shows nurses rushing to the wards without hesitation at the moment the earthquake hit. Upon sensing the quake, they carried children and moved them to safety.


Some nurses also held onto incubators that were shaking violently to protect the newborns. In another video, two nurses dressed in black surgical scrubs ran to the neonatal unit and held onto the shaking incubators caused by the earthquake. They held the incubators until the tremors stopped.

Minister Fahrettin Koca said along with the footage, "They sacrificed themselves to save sick children even during the earthquake," adding, "There were many such cases in other hospitals as well." The video has become a sensation, with over 650,000 views. Netizens worldwide praised the nurses, saying, "Beautiful nurses, thank you," "They saved children despite not knowing what would happen to themselves," and "They are heroes."


Meanwhile, the death toll from the earthquake that struck T?rkiye and Syria has surpassed 37,000. This exceeds the 31,000 deaths caused by the 2003 Iran earthquake. Additionally, this earthquake has been recorded as the sixth deadliest natural disaster of the 21st century. The fifth deadliest natural disaster was the 2005 Pakistan earthquake, which claimed 73,000 lives.
