[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on the 14th that it will conduct 'Customized Technical Consultations for New Food Ingredients' to enable new raw materials to be quickly recognized as food ingredients.
From today until May 13, the Ministry will conduct a survey on the demand for technical consultations targeting related organizations and food companies developing food ingredients, and plans to start actual consultations from April.
The new food ingredient recognition system evaluates the safety of raw materials that have no prior experience of consumption as food in Korea. Once recognized as a new food ingredient, it can be temporarily used until it is registered in the Food Code.
This technical consultation will provide ▲ introduction to the new food ingredient recognition system and case studies ▲ guidance on the scope of submitted materials and detailed preparation instructions such as manufacturing methods and characteristics of raw materials ▲ one-on-one customized consultation services for each application ingredient.
Meanwhile, through the Ministry's technical consultations conducted since 2018, a total of 11 cases, including deep-sea water concentrate minerals and San-gyeoreup extract powder, have been recognized as new food ingredients to date.
