[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) has launched the ‘Gangseo Star Award’ to provide exceptional incentives to outstanding public officials who actively work and deliver impressive service to residents, aiming to foster a self-driven public service culture.

Introduced for the first time this year, the ‘Gangseo Star Award’ encourages exemplary employees who actively promote key priority projects, contribute to work improvement and administrative efficiency, and realize resident satisfaction through volunteer spirit, while sharing best practices.

The district selects one public official or one team each month for the ‘Innovation Challenge Star Award’ for contributions to district development through creative work improvements, regulatory reforms, and budget savings, and the ‘Good Deed Inspiration Star Award’ for practicing good deeds such as volunteering, donations, and sharing.

Recipients are provided with incentives such as encouragement bonuses and opportunities for overseas training.

In particular, among the Innovation Challenge Star awardees, one top individual who has significantly contributed to administrative development through outstanding work performance or actively handled civil complaints over the past two years is selected as the ‘Gangseo Star’ and granted a special year-end promotion opportunity.

The special promotion personnel system grants a one-step salary increase, providing economic benefits during the public official’s tenure as a personnel privilege.

Mayor Kim Tae-woo of Gangseo-gu said, “I hope hardworking employees will shine like stars with passion and a sense of accomplishment, making Gangseo-gu brilliant,” adding, “We will do our best to establish a public personnel system that rewards effort and expertise, and to deliver administration that meets the expectations of 570,000 Gangseo-gu residents.”

Since taking office last year, Mayor Kim Tae-woo has actively worked to create a proactive public service culture by introducing the district’s first-ever special promotion personnel system, operating various personnel systems such as designating and managing professional positions and specialists.
